THE C.A.M.P. initiative came from the brainchild and bodyspirit of 3 creative and committed community artists/organizers back in 2003-- It was at the 2nd CAMP party that Diane and Marquetta, Adora's daughter, first met. At a recent ROOTS meeting in NC, Thandiwe and Diane and Marquetta had the idea to cook up some more C.A.M.P. parties in the tradition that was started when Adora Dupree was with us on the planet. We want to create something lively, fun, and connected that provides a space for artists to perform for and network with each other.

Here are the bios from the C.A.M.P. party flyers back in 2003, plus Marquetta who is stepping into the role of MCG-Goddess of Ceremonies for our celebration!

Thandiwe Shiphrah- a poet, orator and "artist of encouragement" A transplant from D.C. The current evolution of her work she is calling MorningStar Community Arts Collaborative, and these new C.A.M.P. parties will take us back to the roots of the connection between arts and social action. dianamorningstar@gmail.com

She has trained for 10 years in African Dance, taught a year of African Inspired Dance classes and is now teaching group fitness dance called ZUMBA! She is a graduate of Interplay’s Leadership program and co-leader of the program for several years. It is a path of spontaneously embodying and creating art from life through playing with song, story and dance in solo, partner and group play. She is a member of The Love Drums who facilitate drum and dance across the city of Nashville. Marquetta has traveled to Africa on three occasions, and grew up nurtured by a community artists collective called Alternate Roots. She was a featured facilitators at an International Conference last summer called Performing the World in NYC, and as a member of the performance group the Pacha Mamas she has performed across the country in various venues, and facilitated sessions with schoolchildren, and people of all ages.
